Fact! We are living on borrowed time and at some point our time will inevitably run out. Are you maximizing the time you have left? Remember, today is the start of the rest of your life!
Realization is the first step
You must realize as I stated above that you only have a limited time in order to accomplish everything that you want to do. The sooner that you realize that life is going to pass you by if you don’t wake up with passion and purpose every day; the sooner you will be able to live life on your own terms. Realization is the first step to living a full life.
I just turned 22 earlier this year (still a spring chicken I know) but it dawned on me as soon as I hit 22: I only have 8 years until I am 30. That thought alone scares the hell out of me but most importantly it is one hell of a wake up call to take life by the horns and don’t hold back. We’re not young forever.
Have yourself a bucket list
Here’s the thing; I love bucket lists. Why? Because it allows me to accomplish goals easier when I have a deadline I cannot avoid; plus I have a lifetime of planning. I have touched on (in a previous article) how important it is to set weekly, monthly and yearly goals. It is also important to be prepared for when you face the ultimate deadline. Now you may think that bucket lists are for older people already half-way through the pearly gates. This is simply not true! you are never too young to start dreaming big
Ask yourself now: do I have any regrets; write them down on a piece of paper. Now what I want you to do (without scrunching the paper) throw it in the fireplace and watch it burn. Tomorrow you will replace the piece of paper you just burned with your very own bucket list.
This is the just the tip of my bucket list:
- Travel to Greece
- Get shredded at least once
- Buy a car brand new
- Travel to Europe
- Train at Venice Beach at least once
Your bucket list can be purely leisure or a mixture of financial freedom, travel, personal etc. Your bucket list ensures that no stone is left unturned. Live with no regrets, die with no regrets
Don’t sweat the small stuff
You’ve probably heard the saying; Don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s all small stuff. I 100% live by this quote. If you look at your problems as being the small barriers necessary in order to mould you into a warrior that can accomplish anything, rather than huge mountains that you can’t justify climbing, then you have already won.
The key to living life to the fullest is minimizing external and internal stress, maximizing production whilst chasing your passion. Control your emotions and don’t stress about stuff that you cannot physically control.
Find Your Passion
A passion; something that you cannot go a day without thinking about, a greater purpose in life. Find your passion, make it a living and you’ll never work another day in your life.
I can hear y’all saying: but James, not every passion is a career. I disagree! if you have a burning desire to wake up every morning to chase your passion, to pay the rent that is due, then any passion can make you a decent living. Trust me, you will find a way.
Block out the noise
It’s very hard for people to support you if they don’t understand your passion. It’s only natural, you can’t unfortunately make them understand and you will very quickly find that 90% of the people that you trusted to have your back will walk away whilst you are struggling and celebrate with you whilst you’re at the top.
Not only will you not have that support, but people try to bring you down to their mediocre level. You need to fight that, scratch and claw your way to the top like an animal. Ignore the naysayers and fight for what you deserve.
It can be extremely difficult to block out the noise but you need to remember: those who never had your back will let themselves out of your life. Those that have your back never leave.
Value your own energy and don’t be afraid to be selfish
It’s awesome being able to help others, in fact I heavily encourage it. Just don’t focus all your energy into it. Add value to yourself, never stop learning, but most importantly; look after yourself.
Exercise regularly, eat whole unprocessed foods, live life happy. Life gets shit sometimes, I 100% understand that, but you can either focus all your energy dwelling on the negative or focus on the positive character building that forms from these difficult scenarios.
You cannot physically take the weight of the world on your own shoulders, you have enough of your own problems to focus on the rest of the world; it’s OK to be selfish sometimes. You also cannot hope to help others if you can’t deal with your own problems first.
Last but not least, by continuing to learn and add value to yourself, you can add more value to others and are therefore more useful to others as you attain that added knowledge.
Stay true to your own morals
Work hard, relax harder! As you learn to live life on your own terms you will begin to encounter temptations or develop some sort of ego, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: succeed with humility. Stay true to who you are, and never forget your moral standards. Become a mentor to the next in line, help a brother or sister out and remember to never stop learning
Life is for living!
We have all the time in the world to rest when we eventually pass, but what you do today could change the rest of your time on this earth forever! So never be afraid to dream big, work hard and live this life the way life is meant to be lived.
Until next time remember, We rise together!!
